Billericay ended their pre-season build-up with a 2-1 defeat at newly-named Redbridge.
The match was a testimonial for defender Jeff Woolsey, who included both clubs among those he played for during a career that has been cut short due to injury.
Billericay generally had the better of the first-half with last season's top scorer Danny Hockton and Robin Trott both hitting the woodwork. They also had what seemed a justifiable penalty appeal turned down.
But it was Redbridge, formerly Ford United, who took the lead through one-time Canvey Island striker Wayne Vaughan.
While Redbridge changed their entire line-up at half-time, Billericay boss Justin Edinburgh kept his original team on the field in an attempt to get match practice together.
The visitors soon got on terms thanks to a goal from former QPR striker Bradley Allen, but Redbridge eventually ran out winners thanks to a late effort from Nathan Elder.
