A swimmer has died despite the efforts of a member of the public who pulled him from the sea after seeing him in difficulty.
A couple were walking along the seafront at the Western Esplanade, Westliff, when they noticed a swimmer having trouble opposite Palmeira Avenue at just after 6pm on Sunday.
The man swam out and pulled him back to shore where he began giving him CPR, while an ambulance was called.
