A bid to turn one of Frinton's former hotels into luxury apartments has been thrown out.
The application to knock down the Glencoe Hotel and put ten flats in its place was refused by Tendring Council.
An appeal into the decision has been dismissed and was reported to councillors this week.
The appeal inspector said the development on the character and appearance of the area would have a big effect of residents living nearby.
A report said: "The proposal would be a dominant structure in the street scene which would not relate well to the character and townscape of the area."
