Canvey Island new-boy Ben Sedgemore hopes to write another chapter in the long-running Park Lane success story.

The midfielder has signed a two-year contract with Gulls and is relishing the opportunity to play a leading role in their inaugural Conference campaign, which kicks-off at Carlisle on Saturday week.

And the 29-year-old, who should play a part in tonight's Park Lane friendly against East Thurrock, admitted he is looking forward to the challenge ahead.

"It should be an exciting season for Canvey and I'm glad to be involved," said Sedgemore. "This club has had major success over the last few years, winning promotions and FA Cup ties, plus lifting the FA Trophy. And I'd love to play a key role in some more memorable moments.

"My first job however is to force my way into the Canvey team as the squad is very strong, especially in midfield with the likes of John Kennedy and Jeff Minton.

"I'd like to think I have similar attributes, but I can probably offer the club a bit more aerial power in the centre of the park."

Sedgemore has played more than 350 games for Football League clubs such as Peterborough, Mansfield and Macclesfield Town.

The experienced schemer clocked up 31 games for Lincoln City as they made the old Third Division promotion play-offs last season, but he said he wasn't fazed about dropping into the non-league scene.

Gulls have added a final friendly to their summer programme and will travel to Conference South side Lewes on Monday night, where former Southend United striker Barrington Belgrave has been in good scoring form.
