Police were today trying to unravel the mystery of a woman's death on an Essex road.

The victim was in the road when she was involved in a collision with a blue Ford Focus car on the B1027 Colchester Road near Wivenhoe Park Corner, Wivenhoe.
The driver, a 45-year-old Colchester man, stopped at the scene.
But investigators have not ruled out the possibility the woman had been in a previous collision with a vehicle which did not stop.
Police also want to trace a red Ford Fiesta car seen swerving to avoid the woman just before the collision with the Focus, at about 11.15pm yesterday
The victim, who has not been named but is believed to be in her 40s and from London, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses should call Stanway road policing unit on 01206 762512
