Colchester United have secured the signing of Ben Bowditch.

The former Tottenham Hotspur trainee has been on trial at the club since the start of pre-season and has finally landed a deal with the Layer Road side.

U's boss Phil Parkinson said: "Ben has done exceptionally well for us since he has been here.

"It gives us that extra bit of cover in midfield and we now have more people competing for a place in the centre of the park to.

"He is also a versatile player.

"He is not just limited to the centre of midfield, he has played right back and can play wide.

"Ben can get forward to, we know there is a goal or two in him and it will be good to see him produce those."

Parkinson, however, will begin searching for another option up front following the no show of Hungarian striker Zsombor Kerekes in the U's 0-0 draw against Rigdeons League division one side Tiptree United at Chapel Road last night.

Kerekes was unable to get his clearance through from the Hungarian FA and Parkinson said: "It looks dead now."
