Detailed plans for the first phase of Broomfield Hospital's £120 million redevelopment have been approved by councillors.
Following outline approval given for the project in November 2002, councillors gave the all-clear to proposals which include a new five-storey accident and emergency building, and a helicopter landing zone for patients needing urgent care.
The points were just two recommendations agreed by Chelmsford borough councillors at their planning committee meeting on Tuesday.
Other developments include a new loop road and new roundabout access connecting onto the hospital approach, a diagnostic and treatment centre, maternity and paediatric facilities, and parking for more than 1800 cars.
