Basildon MP Angela Smith today said she opposed Essex County Council's bid to import giant pandas to Colchester Zoo.
Essex County Council leader Lord Hanningfield wants to introduce a pair of pandas to captivity in this country, possibly at Colchester Zoo.
However, Mrs Smith is alarmed Basildon taxpayers' money could be spent on the project.
