The life member of Colchester and Tendring Athletics Club jets off on Monday from Stansted Airportto link up with the rest of the Great Britain track and field team in Cyprus.

It's here that she'll begin her final preparations for her attempt at Olympic success in the 100 metres hurdles.

"I'm so excited," said Claxton.

"I can't wait to get out there and do the town proud."

The Olympic stadium will be a long way from the Garrison track where Claxton first started out, but she hopes that her ex-coach Colin Stiff and her former team-mates will be getting right behind her.

She said: "It will be great if everyone at the club will be watching when I take part in my first round race.

"They gave up a lot of their time for me and people like Colin Stiff have been helping me since I was there as a nine-year-old."
