Southend United winger Michael Kightly has been ruled out of Saturday's clash against Cheltenham Town with a calf problem.

The talented teenager originally picked up the injury in training before taking another knock during the 3-3 draw at Dagenham and Redbridge.

And the Benfleet youngster, who made 17 appearances last season, admitted he was frustrated.

"I worked hard in training and I thought I had a chance of playing this weekend," he said.

"But I'm definitely out. I should be running again later in the week and I'll just have to start working hard again to try and get back into the first team squad as quickly as I possibly can."
