Police officers in Brentwood have confirmed their war against youth nuisance in the town will continue through the summer.

Operation Joule has proved such a success since it was launched in June that officers will keep the project running until the end of the summer holidays at least.

Since the scheme started there has been a 36 per cent drop in the number of calls concerning youth nuisance while in Pilgrims Hatch the drop in calls has been 70 per cent.

Sgt Graham Shaw of Brentwood Police said: "We have been targeting large groups of youths which have been gathering in the town causing problems for other residents. When we are called we go and speak to the group and tell them about the problems they are causing and disperse them.

"We realise that this problem is usually at its greatest during the long school summer holiday so we will be continuing this work for the next few weeks at least."
