Vandals have carried out a number of attacks on a graveyard.
The spate of incidents have taken place over the last few days at Dovercourt Cemetery, off Main Road.
Headstones have been covered in purple paint, and the vandals also tried to break into a cemetery building by kicking down the door.
PC Tom Coppin, of Harwich police, condemned the people behind the incidents.
He said: "It is a horrible thing to do and highly disrespectful."
The cemetery, which has hundreds of headstones, is owned and maintained by Tendring Council. Council spokesman Mike Page said: "This was an attempt to break into a storeroom unsuccessful, but very annoying nonetheless."
The door damage was dealt with by yesterday afternoon. Anyone with information on the attacks should contact Harwich police on 01255 241312
