Southend United's Che Wilson is hoping to continue his recent revival and become a regular in the Roots Hall side this season.

The former Norwich City performer endured a miserable first campaign with the coastal club -- starting just 11 league games after signing on a free transfer from Cambridge City.

But during pre-season the 25-year-old has produced a string of upbeat performances and Wilson is now concentrating on taking his upturn in form into the new League Two term.

"Things have gone well for me lately but I need to keep that going wherever I'm playing," he said.

"I think I've done OK so far and hopefully I can get in the team for the Cheltenham game and cement a permanent place in the side -- that's certainly what my target is anyway."

Wilson, who has also played for Bristol Rovers, appeared in a variety of positions in the Shrimpers flurry of friendlies.

But the composed 25-year-old, who has been picked in both defence and midfield, said that was nothing new.

"It's been like that throughout my career," he added. "Sometimes it helps me but sometimes I think it's a hindrance as well.

"The manager knows I can play in a few positions and, in one of the friendlies, I played in three different places.

"But I'm prepared to play anywhere if it means being in the first team. I just want to be out there and I think we're going to do well this year."
