A radio station which set up for a month for the first time last summer is returning to the airwaves of Tendring.

Coast 107FM will be operating for the whole of August and is intending to apply for one of the licences being offered in the area later this year.

Tony Horsman, of HomeView Surveillance, who is one of the people behind the project, said the response last year had been good and costs have been covered this time by sponsors.

"We are really hoping to become a permanent station in the future," he said.

"The new radio regulator Ofcom indicates less protectionism and restrictive practices in radio licensing. Two new licences for the Thames Estuary are soon to be advertised and we aim to secure one of them.

Mr Horsman said the station will be showcasing local bands and giving free air time to local charities.
