Maldon's Peter Wargent cut through the Godmanchester batting line-up, taking seven wickets as his team etched out a draw against their Cambridgeshire opponents at Drapers Farm.

Godmanchester were in a strong position by lunch, moving their total comfortably past the 100 mark with no loss.

However, the visitors soon lost a wicket to a run out and in a short time Wargent managed to pick wickets out of the order as Godmanchester battled on to make a sturdy total of 304 from the 66 overs.

Sadly Wargent's effort with the bat was not as heroic with the ball.

Wargent went to the crease after opener Glen Batticciotto was bowled for a duck and suffered the same fate, walking back to the pavillion without making any impact on the score.

However, youngster David Randall kept the fight up by making 72 before being adjudged lbw and Ian Elliott's half-century also kept the score going.

Valuable contributions from Robbie Barber (42) and Jeff Cook, who carried his bat for 11, helped make 204 and earn the Drapers Farm side a draw and ten more points.

Clacton claimed an important win over Fakenham to move themselves up to sixth in the table.

The Seasiders bagged a 92-run win over their Norfolk opponents thanks to the efforts of Ryan Butterworth's 81 from 87 balls and Brett Brant's 58 from 87.

Gary Kirk returned figures of four for 36, Morton three for 26 and Moulton bagged two for 28 as Fakenham only managed 114.
