A widower has claimed thieves have stolen flowers from a gravestone which were laid down to remember his late wife's birthday.
William Alford, 82, has branded the culprits who swiped his wife's birthday flowers as "disgusting".
Mr Alford, of America Street, Maldon, went to Maldon Cemetery in London Road last Thursday on what would have been his wife's birthday.
The father of nine, who tends to his wife's grave two or three times a week, took some white and yellow geraniums and the following day his son also took some flowers.
However, on Sunday the entire floral arrangement had disappeared.
Mr Alford said: "I only hope that their fingers burn off. It's disgusting. I go up there two or three times a week and I'm sure it's happened before, not just to my gravestone either."
If anybody has any information or saw anyone acting suspiciously, they are asked to contact the police on 01621 852255.
