The Brindles Wood Residents' Association is celebrating another victory after plans for a gated estate on the woodland site in Hutton were rejected by Brentwood Borough Council.
Developers wanted to build 14 homes with an access road, but the association said this would be out of character with the area.
Spokeswoman Judith Hargreaves said: "We are very pleased indeed and we are particularly pleased that we have been able to safeguard the boundaries of the Green Belt.
"We have always felt that we are fighting a wider battle than just amenities for local residents and we have had a lot of support. We are really very pleased that we have preserved the wood."
