Cyclists will soon be able to avoid congested highways between Chelmsford and Writtle as work has begun to develop a new £170,000 Cycleway to link up the existing paths.

The 2km long Cycleway funded by Essex County Council will link existing cycle paths in Central and Admirals Parks in Chelmsford with both Writtle village and Writtle Agricultural College.

Open to walkers, cyclists and equestrians, the path's construction will take two months to complete.

The route ties in with work recently carried out on Writtle College land funded by the College and grants from Department for Transport and the Essex Environment Fund.

Completion of the Chelmsford to Writtle Cycleway will mean another major length of the route can be opened from Maldon to Harlow passing through Chelmsford en route to west Essex.

These paths can then tie in with other National links in Lee and Stort Valleys.
