Chinese takeaway owner Peter Cheng has been fined more than £8,000 by Southend magistrates after a health inspection revealed his kitchen was filthy and infested with mice.

Southend Environmental health officers were called in to Mr Ming Takeaway in Southchurch Avenue, Southend, when four people became ill after eating there.
Inspectors found mouse droppings in various places including on top of a colander full of noodles and congealed grease on the walls.
Cheng admitted having food unfit for human consumption and failing to control pests on his premises.
