A golf club is appealing against the decision to refuse it an extension to its course.

A preliminary report for the £350,000 nine-hole extension to the Notleys Golf Club, at The Green, White Notley, was submitted to Braintree Council planners in July 2002.

The plans for an additional nine holes opposite their current site on Witham Road between Black Notley and White Notley had met with concerns from residents regarding the closeness of fairways to neighbouring properties, noise made by users of the course, grass-cutting machinery and the crossing of public footpaths.

The application was refused but the agent of the club has lodged an appeal in an attempt to keep the scheme alive.

Under the appeal, the club will now seek to ensure 80 per cent pay and play golfing, limit the hours of opening and include protection for footpath users.
