A short film written by Hadleigh lad Jason Shelley is to hit TV screens in less than a month.

Mr Shelley, 34, who grew up in Beresford Close, where his parents still live, and attended local schools Deanes and Westwood Primary, has already had a poetry anthology published as well as a short novel.

His latest effort, entitled the Black Box, will be aired on Wednesday, September 1, on Channel 4. It is his first screenplay.

Mr Shelley said: "I think I will always be a poet at heart but I'm really excited about the Black Box. "It's a 25-minute science-fiction screenplay set in the future when the world is about to end and the main character is a man called Eddie Moonface.

"Eddie is basically an obsessive reader.

"He'll be reading when he's on the phone or in the supermarket. Although it's quite a talent to have, it can obviously be quite rude.

"The end of the world is coming so when Eddie, who is a bit of a loner, wins £100million through a global speed reading competition, he decides to buy all the books in the world to put in his house."
