The new Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt Rev John Gladwin, has made his first official visit to Brentwood.
He enjoyed a whistle-stop tour of the deanery during which he met all the Anglican clergy, attended an end-of-term Eucharist service with final year pupils from St Thomas Junior School, and met the deanery synod.
He also had tea with Brentwood's deputy mayor, Ken Wright, the chief executive of the borough council, Bob McLintock, and council leader Brandon Lewis.
The Bishop was accompanied by Canon Bob White of St Thomas's Church, who said: "He had a very full day and was very impressed with the good relationships that clearly exist in Brentwood and the way in which the churches work very closely with the local authority.
"He was a very gracious guest and we enjoyed his company. He is very perceptive and showed a great deal of interest in what is going on in Brentwood."
