Sign-up Ben Bowditch was today's defiant message from Colchester United star Kem Izzet.
The midfielder believes trialist Bowditch is more than good enough to secure a place in Phil Parkinson's U's squad.
He told the Evening Gazette: "He has a good pedigree and there's no reason why he shouldn't be in the team."
An ankle injury means fans' favourite Izzet is out of contention for tonight's friendly against Premiership side Charlton Athletic.
But the game is hugely significant for Bowditch as it could be his last chance to impress Parkinson.
Izzet, however, is already impressed and believes the youngster would be an asset to the squad.
He said: "He's done well for us as far as I'm concerned.
"Ben is a good player.
"He was a trainee at Tottenham and they are no mugs.
"He has learned from good coaches there and I really think he could challenge for a place in our team."
