Sylvia Harper, of Finer Close, Clacton, is considering going to a solicitor if she is not happy with the outcome of a meeting to be staged with consultants at Colchester General Hospital next month.

Popular Tendring councillor Derek Harper, 62, died in August 2002.

He had made comments that he was not satisfied with the treatment he received and had planned to take the matter up when he recovered.

However, he never got the chance and now Mrs Harper, her son Robert and daughter Tracy, are pursuing the issue on his behalf.

"We have two conflicting death certificates," said Mrs Harper.

"First the cause of death was put down to pneumonia and a cerebrovascular accident.

"Then we asked for a post mortem to be carried out at Ipswich and the cause of death became septicaemia and an abdominal abscess as well as diverticular mass involving sigmoid colon."

She said the first certificate was then crossed out.

A spokesman for Essex Rivers Healthcare Trust said a meeting involving consultants had been arranged for August 12.

"Mrs Harper will have the chance to raise concerns and aspects of her late husband's care and we will have the opportunity to go through his treatment with her," he said.
