Thousands of Southend United supporters flocked to the Shrimpers "Boots and Laces" training ground yesterday as the League Two side held their annual "Meet the Blues Day."

The newly assembled Seasiders squad were all on hand to sign autographs after being put through a light training session by boss Steve Tilson who then joined his players by being soaked in the stocks by the Roots Hall faithful who paid for the privilege.

A former Southend United XI -- which included David Crown, Paul Sansome and Paul Clark then sealed a 6-5 win over the Shrimpers youth team, which also included Jay Smith, with Crown bagging a brace and Garry Nelson a hat-trick.

Fans were also treated to a display from the club's Blue Belles cheerleaders, while a number of stalls and prizes helped increase the day's enjoyment for those present -- including 12 year old Adam Davis from Hockley.

"It was a really good day," he said. "I got all the players autographs plus the new kit and now I really can't wait for the season to start. We're going to win promotion for sure."
