Fourteen men lost their locks in the name of charity. The head shaving event took place at Brooke Square in Maldon on Saturday and yesterday and raised more than £5,500 for the Helen Rollason Cancer Care Centre Appeal and Cancer Research UK.

The event was organised by Russell Lee, who lives in the Square, helped out by Tony Williams.

Mr Lee wanted to raise money for cancer charities and decided to get the event off the ground.

"We have got a nice community here in Brooke Square and everyone joined in. It was a really good day and we had a barbecue, penalty shoot out, tombola and guess the weight of the hair, which was 15oz."

Russell said £4,000 was raised in sponsorship with more than £1,000 raised on the day.
