The Dick Patmore Memorial Ground side won the toss and put Brentwood in. The visitors reached 279-5 from their 52 over before declaring.
Wickford saw openers Ian Letch (39) and overseas player Kim Beazleigh (33) get their run chase off to a good start, before Chris Gladwin (58no) and Lee Deller (52no) ran out of time 42 runs short of victory.
"The score does not really reflect the game," said Wickford cricket manager Mark Everitt. "They put some slow balls in at the end and we got some runs."
