The speed limit on a busy section of the A13 has been cut in a bid to reduce road traffic accidents.
Kiln Road, Benfleet has been the subject of the 10mph reduction to 30mph after Castle Point's highways and leisure committee voted for the proposals.
It is hoped the new restriction will improve road safety and reduce traffic accidents.
Highways and leisure chairman Ray Howard welcomed the move.
He said: "We are convinced speeding does cause a high proportion of accidents. We therefore believe the public will welcome this."
