A burglar sneaked into a house through unlocked patio doors and took valuables.
The intruder got into the home in Coriander Road, Tiptree, and escaped with a handbag, wallet, cash and credit cards.
Det Sgt Roger Napier, of Colchester CID, said: "We would like to reiterate the importance of checking your doors before you go to bed at night."
Anyone with information about the burglary, on Friday night or early Saturday morning, should call police on 01206 762212 or alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
