A Barnston engineering company was fined £6,000 following an incident in which a worker was injured while using a piece of machinery
Chelmsford Crown Court heard how a guard fitted to a milling machine was not suitable and worker Robert White sustained injuries to his right hand while using it.
His employers, AH Mead and Son (Engineering) Ltd, admitted a charge of failing to provide guards to enclose dangerous parts of a milling machine between July 2002 and February of last year.
The company was also ordered to pay £8,000 costs. The charge was brought under health and safety legislation and related to a machine at the company's Martel Works in High Easter Road, Barnston, Dunmow.
David Maidment, mitigating, said there was no question of the company putting profit before safety.
