A public-spirited optician who made a brave citizen's arrest of a graffiti vandal had to be content with the youth being handed a meagre £50 fine.

Mark Duffield, 43, owner of Duffield's Opticians in Rayleigh High Street, saw 18-year-old Andrew Davies using a spray can on a bench right outside his practice.
He rushed outside and detained him while colleagues called police.
