Kind-hearted fundraisers are holding a charity football match on Sunday to raise money for a woman who has been in a coma for two months.

Canvey man Ben Bovill has arranged the event for Nicki Peach, who has been in hospital since suffering a fall in Gran Canaria.

Miss Peach, 24, and her boyfriend Matt Jackson, also from Canvey, were on holiday when the accident happened.

Ben, a close friend of the couple, said: "Nicki was alone and walking back to the hotel. She ended up climbing a perimeter fence which was about 6ft high. As she went to climb over, she fell and clipped her feet on the wall and her whole body flipped and she landed on her head.

"Luckily, a couple saw what happened and called the ambulance and police."

Ben said Nicki, who is from Chingford, was then brought back to the UK by air ambulance.

He said: "She was treated there at first and was then brought back here. She has been in a coma ever since the accident."

The event will be held at the Concorde football club, Thames Road, Canvey, on Sunday from noon.

There will be a football match, a sponsored head shave, a barbecue, bouncy castles, magician and kids entertainers, DJs and more.

Admission is £5 for adults, while children can go for free.
