Furious Harwich and Parkeston chairman Tony Armstrong has come out fighting after the shock departures of Matt Carmichael and Martin Calver.

The duo's move to Ridgeons League premier division rivals Halstead Town has angered Harwich stalwart Armstrong.

The pair have admitted to being impressed by Halstead's ambition and Carmichael even accused Harwich of 'standing still'.

But Armstrong said he was 'disgusted' and 'extremely disappointed' that he and Calver had decided to leave The Royal Oak.

The long-serving Shrimper, whose team host Heybridge Swifts in their first pre-season friendly tonight (7.45pm), said: "Only a few weeks ago Carmichael was quoted in the media as to how happy he was at Harwich, how the club was going in the right direction and how he wanted to be part of the future.

"Now he claims we are standing still.

"I was more disturbed at losing Calver, but he did not even give the club a chance to discuss the position."
