Colchester lost 2-1 against West Ham at Layer Road in Karl Duguid's testimonial last night.
West Ham striker Marlon Harewood played the ball to Nigel Reo-Coker, and he squared it to Matthew Etherington to sidefoot home for the opening goal.
Shortly after half time, following an interchange of passes with Teddy Sheringham, Harewood stroked home a powerful drive to make it 2-0.
The U's pulled one back, with Wayne Brown's header rebounding off the bar and substitute Ben Bowditch forcing the ball home.
Ipswich beat Newcastle 2-1 last night in a pre-season friendly at Portman Road.
Town took the lead when Shefki Kuqi sidefooted in from Dean Bowditch's pass after four minutes.
Craig Bellamy crossed for Laurent Robert to equalise before half-time but Kuqi set up Pablo Counago, whose shot deflected past Newcastle keeper Steve Harper.
