A young man has died following a car crash on the A414 near Maldon today.
A police spokesman said the man, who was in his 20s, was driving in the direction of Maldon when his silver Honda car left the road and hit a telegraph pole.
The accident happened at about 1am close to the Royal Oak public house in Woodham Mortimer.
A rapid response vehicle arrived on the scene six minutes after the accident, followed by an ambulance from Chelmsford.
A spokesman for Essex Ambulance Service said: "The car appeared to have rolled and hit a telegraph pole, which came down, and then hit a tree."
The man was taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford where he was certified dead on arrival, having suffered fatal injuries from the crash.
Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the accident or the car travelling along the A414 prior to the crash to contact Chelmsford road police on 01245 491 491
