A pig's trotter was left on the doorstep of an Islamic leader as part of a racially motivated attack on his property.
Two people wearing masks smashed a window during the attack on the Basildon home of Sarfraz Sarwar.
It is the third time in three months the 51-year-old, who is general secretary of the Basildon Islamic Centre, has been the victim of racists.
Mr Sarwar cannot understand why he has been singled out. He said: "We Muslims don't eat pork and that is why the trotter was left. It is all about Islamic phobia."
He added: "I do not know what they are gaining out of it. I have been in Basildon for 36 years and I love it.
"It is not me I am worried about, it is the people around me. I feel sorry for my neighbours who are just like a family."
