Colchester United have confirmed that Micky Cook has left Layer Road.
The club's highly-successful Director of Youth Football has been made redundant, ending an association which stretches back almost 30 years.
A club statement said: "The club are extremely grateful for Micky's efforts over the years and sad this redundancy has proved necessary."
The Evening Gazette revealed yesterday that mystery surrounded Cook's future.
He had not been seen at the training ground for up to a week.
Cook, 53, is a former club captain and holds the record for more than 700 League and cup appearances-pearances for the U's.
