Commuters today suffered another morning of train chaos as workers battled to repair power lines between Leigh and Benfleet.

Five c2c trains from Shoebury to Fenchurch Street were cancelled this morning and other services were disrupted across south Essex.

Buses ferried commuters from stations in the Southend borough to Pitsea to pick up trains.

Commuter Nicola Read, 35, from Delaware Road, Shoebury, said: "I stood in the cold for ages this morning. I've phoned my boss to say I will be late again. It happens all the time at the moment."

Some of the morning's mayhem included:

City workers from Thorpe Bay had to catch a bus to Pitsea from 6am

The 7.23am train missed out all Southend stations and picked its first commuters up from Pitsea

The 7.25am from Pitsea to Fenchurch Street departed from Grays
