Firefighters in Brentwood are seeking vehicles to practice their rescue skills using new state-of-the-art equipment.

Station commander, Jack Imrie, said: "Due to the strategic importance of Brentwood Fire Station with its attendance at Road Traffic Accidents on the M25 and the A12 one set of our hydraulic cutting and spreading rescue equipment is to be replaced with equipment which will double our present capacity.

"Before we can get operational with this new kit we need to practice and have everyone trained and as a result we need a few donated MOT failures or scrap cars."

The new equipment is more powerful with the cutting tool helping fire fighters slice through car frames more easily while the 'spreading' tool is better capable of opening up a gap in the metal work so that emergency workers can access casualties.

Mr Imrie said: "This new replacement equipment will not only give us greater lifting and spreading ability, but will allow the brigade to move our existing tools to a neighbouring station."

Anyone who can support Brentwood Fire Station should call Mr Imrie on 01277 214037.
