Shocked drinkers watched in horror as a burly pub bouncer ripped off his shirt and charged screaming at terrified customers.

Witnesses say trouble flared up at The Grand, in Broadway, Leigh, at around 10.40pm last Friday night.

Customers were forced to flee to safety as a bouncer erupted into a violent rage, charging from the venue shouting threats.

One terrified witness, who asked not to be named said: "We couldn't believe it. The doorman tore off his shirt and began a frenzied Tarzan impression, beating his chest and screaming 'I'll have you all'.

"It was frightening. He was a big guy. If someone like that loses their temper you really don't want to be in the way."

Pub owners, The Spirit Group, confirmed an incident took place at The Grand last Friday.

Spokeswoman Sarah Neale said: "A customer was forcibly removed from the premises."

But the firm initially denied a bouncer was involved after pub staff led them to believe a customer ripped off his shirt and made the threats.

But a witness pointed out: "The doormen, who wear a black uniform and earpieces, are easily identifiable. It was a bouncer."

The Spirit Group has promised to investigate the claims. Ms Neale added: "The well-being and safety of customers is a priority. If I find out a bouncer has been misbehaving then action will be taken."
