West Ham's pre-season build-up continues at Colchester United tonight -- but new signing Sergei Rebrov will not be involved until Saturday.

The Ukrainian international received his work permit late yesterday, but is not expected to make his debut until Anderlecht come to Upton Park at the weekend.

But assistant manager Peter Grant is already looking forward to getting him involved after seeing what the 30-year-old frontman can do on the training pitch.

"He's got wonderful ability," said Grant. "When you watch him you can see he has that little something about him that you'd like to think West Ham have always had in their team.

"We know what he's capable of doing."

After a nightmare spell at Spurs, Rebrov comes to the club with a few question marks over his recent form.

His £11m transfer to White Hart Lane from Dynamo Kiev was a big disappointment as he managed just 32 league starts and ten goals in three years before going out on loan to Turkish giants Fenerbache.

Grant, though, is unconcered about the past, believing the new signing to be a major coup for Hammers.

"I remember when he came to this country I thought £11m was a steal," he said.

"When you watched him play with Andrei Shevchenko there was no doubt about his quality."
