An appeal is being made to keen gardeners to give a little time to help with a project starting at Maldon's St Peter's Hospital.
The area of land around Cherry Trees Mental Health Resource Centre on the hospital site is to be transformed, to be used for therapeutic work with people who have mental health problems.
The project has received lottery funding and funds from Maldon and South Chelmsford Primary Care Trust (PCT).
Members of the British Trust of Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) have offered their help with clearing the site, but extra volunteers are needed.
Paul McNeill, the PCT's Healthy Living Activities Co-ordinator, said: "There is clear evidence that the therapeutic qualities of gardening can be very helpful for people with mental health issues.
"The therapists at the centre already have a gardening group who will use this garden as part of a treatment and rehabilitation programme."
The first session is on Saturday, July 31.Anyone interested in helping with the project can contact Paul on 07789 995501.
