A pensioner was accosted by a knife-wielding thug who threatened to stab him unless he was given cash.
The 74-year-old man told his young attacker that he had no money, but was searched before being allowed to pass through the Laindon underpass.
The attempted robbery took place on July 13, but the victim delayed reporting the incident until he mentioned it to his wife.
The Laindon victim was approached by the slim thug, aged between 20-30, 5ft 6ins tall, with short black hair brushed back. Anyone with information should call police on 01268 532212.
