A new cashpot of £1.8m is being pumped in to support voluntary groups in Essex

Essex Community Foundation is celebrating the continuation of its European Social Fund Global Grants programme which will boost a whole host of organisations.

A total of 182 grants have already been distributed from the current £1.5m programme known locally as Key Fund, to organisations working to improve the prospects of people who face the greatest obstacles in finding work.

Applications for funding are now being invited for the new programme.

About 80 guests from the voluntary, private and public sector joined trustees and staff of Essex Community Foundation at High Barn, Great Bardfield, to hear from organisations already benefiting from European funding.

They were joined by representatives from Go-East, Department for Education and Skills and local agencies who are match funding the three-year programme.

Essex Euro MP Richard Howitt, who sits on the European Parliament Committee responsible for the funding, said via a video message from Brussels: "I am delighted that this extension of European money will be available to grassroots organisations".
