A workman on a building site suffered serious crush injuries after a two tonne concrete block landed on his hand.
The accident happened on the Barrett Homes building site in Distillery Lane, off Haven Road, Colchester.
An Essex rapid response vehicle was on the scene within five minutes of the call at 11am yesterday, backed up by an ambulance.
Paramedic Terry Dix said: "When I arrived, the block had been moved and his hand was free but the man was still two storeys up where he had been working.
"We requested the fire service bring a hydraulic platform to get the man down.
"He was taken to Colchester General Hospital where his injuries will be assessed."
