A wasp attack victim made a desperate call to police as a swarm of the insects filled his bedroom.
The man was asleep at his home in Friday Wood Green, Colchester, when a nest crashed through the ceiling and the wasps started to buzz around him.
Det Sgt Roger Napier, of Colchester CID, said: "He was in considerable distress.
"He was trapped in bed and unable to move for fear of being stung."
He said the terrified man called the police station at 3.45am on Saturday but no-one was available to go to his aid.
Det Sgt Napier said: "Eventually he left the house and no doubt got pest control to deal with it."
