New West Ham signing Teddy Sheringham was not too impressed with life after his first appearance for the club.

The striker lasted the full 90 minutes of a 1-1 friendly draw at Peterborough, but acknowledged the afternoon's action was a disappointment.

"I wasn't really pleased with it," he said. "It wasn't great but I suppose it was to be expected with it being warm and having to play on a pitch with long grass."

His enthusiasm about the future was greater, however, at the end of his first week training with the first-team squad.

"We certainly have quality," he said. "You can tell there are good players because other clubs are making bids for them."

It was a Michael Carrick corner which led to Hammers' goal at London Road, after an unprepossessing opening to their first pre-season outing on English soil.

His cross was met by Christian Dailly's stooping header on the six-yard line to put the visitors in front.

But the home side cancelled out that lead before half-time when Calum Willock finished calmly after Clive Platt outjumped Andy Melville to release his strike partner.
