Hadleigh Castle is undergoing £80,000 worth of repairs to save it from total collapse.
Work to conserve and stabilise the crumbling castle, is expected to take about three months, a move which could effectively kill visits from tourists through the summer season.
But the work on the ruins of the castle's two remaining towers has been deemed "long overdue" by English Nature, which is managing the effort.
