Southend voluntary groups have attracted more than £100,000 worth of funding from the European Social Fund.
Beneficiaries includes Southend Women's Aid, which has been granted £10,000, and the Share-It Muslim Community Support Centre.
Maggi Howell, executive director of Women's Aid, said they were very pleased they had received the grant.
She said: "We are thrilled. However, we are limited to the kind of funding we can apply for. So this is money that will be spent on training for the computing aspects of the charity.
"Under this application the money must be used for training."
