A spark from a wood-turning machine caused a fire that spread to the roof of a Southend factory.
The spark caused an extraction duct near the machine to catch light and send the flames to the roof of C&B Services in Redstock Road.
Two fire engines from Southend and one from Leigh were called at about 11.40am yesterday.
Station officer Nick Brazier said staff were evacuated.
The fire caused a hole in the factory roof.
